Rick Sharp’s Vintage Hawaii
Show brings back the magic
of old Hawaii through a unique
blend of art, music and dance.
If you walk through the gift shops of
Hawaii, you have more than likely either seen or bought Rick Sharp’s “vintage”
art.His vibrant images of
paradise – recalling travel posters of the 30’s and 40’s – are virtually
everywhere:on candles, placemats,
coffee mugs, calendars, tote bags, shot glasses, photo albums and more…all beautifully produced by Island Heritage.
In fact, many of these images have
become such classics that most people assume they were painted in the heyday of
travel posters – when the Islands promised an idyllic escape from the Great
Depression and World War II.But
nothing could be further from the truth!
Painter Rick Sharp, a part-time Big
Island resident for many years, is not only alive and well; he has been appearing in TV, film and stage productions in
between creating art.And his
unique vintage Hawaii Show "Honolulu Revue", on tour this summer, demonstrates this in one
exciting “trip-back-in-time” event.
Sharp’s poster art and music show features
a vintage-style band and a beautiful hula dancer, performing nostalgic Hapa Haole songs against a
stunning backdrop of his oversizedvintage posters.
Artist Rick Sharp
has been featured recently on HBO, PBS and Prime Time TV shows for ABC, CBS,
TLC, Discovery Channel and Oxygen Network. But the real “stars” of this show are the posters themselves
– a large selection of which will be on display and available for sale as
Limited Edition Fine Art Prints for collectors. The artist will be on hand after the show to sign these
prints.
About his touring art show, Sharp
says, “I just want to share my love of old Hawaii with those who have the same
affection for the past.”Whether
the music complements the art, or the art complements the music, the result is
a romantic journey to bygone days.
